Why Is This Recruitment So Significant?
This is the largest APO recruitment Rajasthan has seen in recent years. The prosecution department had been running with a significant shortage of officers for a long time, and these 371 posts are being filled to strengthen the state’s legal machinery at the district and sessions court level.
For law graduates, this is not just a job but a career in criminal litigation, where you represent the Government of Rajasthan in courts and work alongside public prosecutors in serious criminal cases. The salary of up to ₹1.12 lakh per month, job security, and the prestige of the post make it one of the most sought-after legal government jobs in the state.
Vacancy Details: Non-SA and SA Area Posts
The total 371 vacancies are split across two geographic zones.
- Non-Scheduled Area (Non-SA): 355 posts
- Scheduled Area (SA): 15 posts
- Additional Posts: 1 post
Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Area zone must mandatorily fill their preference for SA posts in the online application form. Failing to do so will result in the loss of SA reservation benefits, so this is a step you cannot overlook.

Selection Process
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)
The Prelims is an OMR-based objective test consisting of 100 questions with 5 options each. This exam is only qualifying in nature, which means its marks are NOT added to the final merit list. Its sole purpose is to screen candidates for the Main Examination. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for blank responses, and candidates who leave more than 10% of questions unattempted will be disqualified. Only Blue Ball Point Pen is allowed.
Stage 2: Main Examination (Merit-Based)
The Mains carries 400 marks in total across two papers.
- Paper I (Law): 300 marks, 3 hours
- Paper II (Language): 100 marks, 2 hours (50 marks Hindi + 50 marks English)
The final merit list is prepared entirely on the basis of Main Examination marks. Prelims marks have no role in the final selection.
Syllabus Highlights
Paper I (Law) covers a wide range of criminal law subjects including BNS 2023 (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), BNSS 2023 (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita), BSA 2023 (Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam), and the older IPC 1860, CrPC 1973, and Evidence Act 1872 since both old and new codes are currently operative in Rajasthan courts. Other subjects include the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, POCSO Act 2012, Juvenile Justice Act 2015, Probation of Offenders Act, Arms Act 1959, Rajasthan Excise Act 1950, and the Rajasthan UFM Acts of 1992 and 2022.
Paper II (Language) tests Hindi Grammar, Hindi Essay, Hindi Letter/Report Writing, English Grammar, English Comprehension, and English Essay writing.
Salary and Job Benefits
Selected APOs are placed on Pay Matrix Level 11, which means a monthly basic pay ranging from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400, depending on seniority and pay progression. On top of this, they receive Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other standard Rajasthan government perks. The APO position sits within Group-B state services and offers clear promotion pathways to the post of Deputy District Attorney and further up the prosecution hierarchy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. I am in the final semester of my LLB degree. Can I still apply for RPSC APO 2026?
No. Unlike some other government recruitments, RPSC APO 2026 does not allow final-year students to apply provisionally. You must have obtained your Law degree in full before July 7, 2026, which is the last date of application. Candidates who do not possess the degree by this date are ineligible to apply.
Q2. I belong to OBC category from Uttar Pradesh. Will I get a fee relaxation and reservation benefit in RPSC APO 2026?
No. Candidates from states other than Rajasthan belonging to SC, ST, OBC, MBC, or EWS categories will be treated as General (Unreserved) candidates. You must pay the application fee of ₹600 and will not receive any reservation benefit in vacancies or age limit. Only Rajasthan domicile candidates with valid state-issued category certificates can claim these benefits.
Q3. If I leave more than 10 questions blank in the Prelims, will I really be disqualified?
Yes, this is a unique rule specific to the RPSC APO Prelims. As per the official notification, candidates who leave more than 10% of questions blank on the OMR sheet will be disqualified from further stages. Since there are 100 questions, leaving more than 10 blank crosses this threshold. However, do note that attempting wrong answers also carries a penalty of 1/3 mark, so a careful balance between attempts and accuracy is essential.
Q4. The Prelims is scheduled for September 2, 2026. Does that mean I have very little time to prepare?
You have approximately three months from the application opening date of June 8, 2026. While this may feel short for a paper that covers 13 law subjects, three months is sufficient if you follow a structured plan. Prioritise the new criminal codes (BNS, BNSS, BSA) since they are tested alongside the old IPC and CrPC. Simultaneously, begin Mains answer writing practice because the final merit list is based entirely on Mains performance, not Prelims.
Q5. Can I apply for both Scheduled Area (SA) and Non-Scheduled Area (Non-SA) posts in the same application form?
No. Each candidate submits a single application and must clearly indicate their zone preference in the form. If you belong to a Scheduled Area and wish to claim SA reservation, you must fill in your preference for SA posts during the application. Not doing so means you will be considered only for general Non-SA posts and will lose your SA reservation. Read the official notification carefully before submitting your preference in the form.
